Medications we commonly fill

  • Antibiotics for dental infections and pre-procedure use

Coverage and prior authorization

Prescriptions from your dentist are billed to your prescription drug plan, not your dental insurance. Most antibiotics and pain relievers are covered, though plans may limit opioid quantities, and prescription fluoride products are sometimes excluded. We check before filling and tell you the cost.

Controlled pain medications must be e-prescribed under New York’s I-STOP law, with limited exceptions, and our pharmacists may consult the Prescription Monitoring Program before dispensing. Tell your dentist about any blood thinners you take.

Questions

Does my dental insurance pay for my prescription?

Usually not. Prescriptions from your dentist are billed to your prescription drug plan. We’ll run the claim and tell you the copay, or our cash price if you don’t have coverage.

I was told to take an antibiotic before my dental visit. Can you fill it ahead of time?

Yes. Ask your dentist to send the prescription a few days early, and take it exactly as directed before your appointment.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your dentistry & oral surgery office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
