Allergy & Immunology

Allergy and immunology prescriptions in Hicksville, NY

Allergy care can mean anything from a nasal spray to a biologic that needs a detailed prior authorization. We fill prescriptions from allergists and immunologists, explain how to use what you’re prescribed, and work with your prescriber’s office when your plan asks for more information.

Coverage and prior authorization

Biologics for asthma, eczema and chronic hives almost always need a prior authorization, usually with lab results, symptom history and a record of treatments you’ve already tried. We tell your prescriber’s office what the plan asks for and follow it through for you. Plans may prefer a particular epinephrine product or limit how many you can fill at once, so we check before filling and tell you the cost. Some biologics are given in your doctor’s office and billed under your medical benefit instead of your pharmacy benefit.

Check the expiration date on your epinephrine auto-injectors and store them as the label directs. Our pharmacists can show you how to use your device. If you use epinephrine for a severe reaction, call 911.

Questions

How many epinephrine auto-injectors will my plan cover?

Plans set their own quantity limits. We’ll run the claim, tell you what’s covered and what it costs, and ask your prescriber’s office about an exception if you need extra devices, for example for school or work.

Can I buy my antihistamine over the counter instead?

Many antihistamines and some nasal steroids are sold over the counter, and plans may not cover them as prescriptions. Ask us to compare the cash price with your plan’s copay.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your allergy & immunology office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
