Pulmonology

Pulmonology prescriptions in Hicksville, NY

An inhaler only helps if you can get it and use it well. We fill prescriptions from pulmonologists, keep an eye on your plan’s formulary changes, and show you how to use your inhaler and spacer.

Conditions we commonly support

  • Asthma, including severe asthma
  • COPD, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Chronic cough

Medications we commonly fill

  • Maintenance inhalers: inhaled steroids, long-acting bronchodilators and combinations
  • Rescue inhalers
  • Respiratory biologics for severe asthma and COPD, when prescribed
  • Nebulizer solutions
  • Spacers, when prescribed

Coverage and prior authorization

Plans often require step therapy for inhalers and change their preferred brands from year to year, so an inhaler that was covered last year may be rejected now. When that happens, we tell you and your prescriber which alternatives the plan prefers, or what it needs for an exception, and follow it through for you. Respiratory biologics need a prior authorization, usually with lab results and treatment history.

Inhaler technique matters as much as the medication. Ask our pharmacists to walk you through your inhaler and spacer when you pick up, or by phone.

Questions

My inhaler was covered last year. Why is it rejected now?

Plans update their formularies, often at the start of the year. We’ll check which inhalers your plan now prefers and send that information to your prescriber, who decides whether to switch or request an exception.

Do I need a spacer?

Spacers help many people who use metered-dose inhalers. Ask your prescriber. If they prescribe one, we can fill it and show you how to use it.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your pulmonology office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
