Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery prescriptions in Hicksville, NY

After brain or spine surgery, your medication schedule can be detailed and time-sensitive. We fill prescriptions from neurosurgeons, explain tapering steroid and anti-seizure schedules, and deliver free so you can recover at home.

Conditions we commonly support

  • Recovery after spine surgery
  • Recovery after brain surgery
  • Seizure prevention after surgery
  • Brain swelling
  • Herniated discs and spinal stenosis
  • Nerve pain
  • Muscle spasm
  • Blood clot prevention after surgery

Medications we commonly fill

  • Post-operative pain regimens (non-opioid and, when appropriate, controlled)
  • Anti-seizure medications
  • Steroid tapers
  • Muscle relaxants and neuropathic pain medications
  • Stool softeners and stomach-protecting medications

Coverage and prior authorization

Most post-operative prescriptions are covered, but newer anti-seizure medications may need a prior authorization, and plans may limit opioid and muscle relaxant quantities. When your neurosurgeon’s office sends prescriptions ahead of your surgery or discharge date, we can check coverage early and follow up on anything the plan needs.

Controlled-substance prescriptions, including some muscle relaxants, must be e-prescribed under New York’s I-STOP law, with limited exceptions, and our pharmacists may consult the Prescription Monitoring Program before dispensing. Don’t stop an anti-seizure medication unless your neurosurgeon tells you to.

Questions

How do I follow a steroid taper?

Take each dose exactly as written, since the amount usually drops every few days. Our pharmacists can lay out the schedule day by day for you.

Can I drive while taking my post-surgery medications?

Ask your neurosurgeon. Some pain, muscle relaxant and anti-seizure medications cause drowsiness, and our pharmacists can explain the warnings on each label.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your neurosurgery office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
