Hematology

Hematology prescriptions in Hicksville, NY

Blood disorders often call for careful dosing and a steady supply. We fill prescriptions from hematologists, keep track of dose changes, and work with your hematologist’s office on coverage for brand and high-cost therapies.

Conditions we commonly support

  • Blood clots (DVT and pulmonary embolism)
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Vitamin B12 and folate deficiency
  • Inherited clotting disorders
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Low platelet counts
  • Polycythemia
  • Bleeding disorders

Medications we commonly fill

  • Oral anticoagulants, including warfarin and newer agents
  • Injectable anticoagulants
  • Oral iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid
  • Hydroxyurea and other oral blood disorder therapies, when available to us
  • Self-injectable hematology therapies, when available to us

Coverage and prior authorization

Newer anticoagulants can carry high copays and may need a prior authorization, especially for extended treatment. Injectable anticoagulants often have quantity limits. Therapies for sickle cell disease and platelet disorders usually require a prior authorization with lab results. We tell your hematologist’s office what the plan needs, follow it through for you, and tell you your cost before filling.

Some hematology medications are limited-distribution and dispensed only through designated pharmacies. If that applies to yours, we’ll tell you and help coordinate. Don’t stop an anticoagulant without talking to your prescriber.

Questions

I take warfarin. Can you keep my tablets from the same manufacturer?

Tell us your preference. We’ll note it on your profile and try to source the same product each fill when supply allows. Your prescriber can also specify it on the prescription.

Can I take iron at the same time as my other medications?

Iron can affect how some medications are absorbed, including thyroid medications and certain antibiotics. Our pharmacists can suggest how to space your doses, based on your prescriber’s instructions.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your hematology office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
