Nephrology

Nephrology prescriptions in Hicksville, NY

Kidney disease affects how many medications are dosed, and treatment often involves several prescriptions at once. We fill prescriptions from nephrologists and dialysis teams, keep refills on schedule, and work with your nephrologist’s office on coverage.

Coverage and prior authorization

Calcimimetics and newer kidney disease therapies may need a prior authorization or step therapy. If you’re on dialysis, some medications, including phosphate binders for many Medicare patients, may be provided through your dialysis facility instead of your pharmacy benefit. We check which benefit applies, tell your nephrologist’s office what the plan needs, and tell you the cost first.

Kidney function affects the right dose for many medications. Tell our pharmacists about your latest kidney function results or dialysis schedule, and ask before taking over-the-counter pain relievers, which may not be appropriate with kidney disease.

Questions

Why is my phosphate binder now coming from my dialysis center?

Medicare changed how it pays for phosphate binders for people on dialysis, and many are now provided through the dialysis facility. We’ll check how your plan handles it and coordinate with your care team.

Can you deliver on my non-dialysis days?

Yes. Tell us your dialysis schedule and we’ll plan delivery for a day and time when you’re home.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your nephrology office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
