Coverage and prior authorization

Post-operative prescriptions are usually covered, but plans may limit opioid quantities and require a prior authorization for injectable anticoagulants or brand anti-nausea medications. When your surgeon’s office sends prescriptions before your surgery date, we can check coverage early and work on any issue before discharge.

Controlled-substance prescriptions must be e-prescribed under New York’s I-STOP law, with limited exceptions, and opioid prescriptions for acute pain are generally limited to a seven-day supply. Our pharmacists may consult the Prescription Monitoring Program before dispensing.

Questions

Should I keep taking my regular medications before surgery?

Follow your surgeon’s instructions. Some medications, such as blood thinners and certain diabetes drugs, are often paused before surgery. Our pharmacists can help you make a list to review with your surgical team.

Can you deliver to a relative’s home where I’m recovering?

Yes. Delivery is free anywhere in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Tell us the address and we’ll confirm a time with you or a caregiver.

Working with your prescriber

How we work with your general surgery office

  1. We read the rejection

We find out why the plan didn’t pay: a prior authorization, step therapy, a quantity limit or a drug that isn’t on the formulary.

  2. We send the plan’s criteria

Your prescriber decides whether to submit a request and provides the clinical information the plan asks for.

  3. We follow it through

We check the status with your plan and keep you updated until there’s a decision.

  4. We fill and deliver

Once it’s approved, we fill your prescription and deliver it, or have it ready for pickup in Hicksville.
